New Delhi Metro Station Also Closed, Total 18 Stations Shut Today Amid Paper Leak Protest
The ongoing protest in Delhi against the paper leak issue has disrupted metro services across the national capital. Due to heightened security arrangements, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has closed several stations, taking the total number of affected stations to 18 on Friday.
The demonstration at Jantar Mantar, organised by the Cockroach Janata Party, has impacted Delhi’s metro network for the third consecutive day. Earlier on Friday morning, DMRC had announced the closure of 17 metro stations. Later, New Delhi Metro Station was also shut, increasing the total number of closed stations to 18.
New Delhi Metro Station Closure Hits Railway Passengers
The closure of New Delhi Metro Station has caused additional inconvenience for passengers travelling by train to states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, and others. Since the station is directly connected to New Delhi Railway Station, many commuters from Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad rely on the metro to reach the railway terminal.
DMRC has also suspended interchange facilities at New Delhi Metro Station.
List of 18 Metro Stations Closed Today
According to DMRC, the following stations remain closed until further orders due to security reasons:
- Lok Kalyan Marg
- Rajiv Chowk
- Patel Chowk
- Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
- Barakhamba Road
- Supreme Court
- Seva Teerth
- Janpath
- Mandi House
- Central Secretariat
- ITO
- Delhi Gate
- Indraprastha
- Khan Market
- Jor Bagh
- Shivaji Stadium
- Jhandewalan
- New Delhi
Among these, Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat normally provide interchange facilities between metro lines. With the latest restrictions, New Delhi Metro Station’s interchange facility has also been suspended.
These stations had already remained closed on Wednesday and Thursday, and Friday marks the third consecutive day of restrictions. The prolonged closures have caused significant inconvenience to office-goers, students, and daily commuters across the Delhi-NCR region.
